E-2 Treaty Investor Visa Lawyer

E-2 visas for treaty-country investors who start or buy a Michigan business, including business-plan review and E-2 employees.

Overview

How Mann Law Group helps

The E-2 lets a national of a treaty country live in the United States to develop and direct a business in which they have invested a substantial amount. There is no fixed minimum, but the investment must be real, at risk, and large enough for the business. Mann Law Group helps investors confirm treaty eligibility, structure the investment, and present a business that an officer can believe in.

Common services and issues

Treaty and ownership review
The investor must be a national of a country with a qualifying treaty, and treaty nationals must own at least half of the business. We confirm both before money moves.
Business purchases and startups
Many E-2 investors buy an existing Michigan business. We work with your business broker and corporate lawyer so the purchase terms, escrow, and timing support the visa.
Business plan and evidence
We review the business plan, the source and path of the funds, and the proof that the capital is committed and at risk.
E-2 employees and renewals
An E-2 company can bring key employees of the same treaty nationality. We also prepare renewals, which depend on the business's actual performance.

What to keep in mind

  • Only nationals of treaty countries qualify. Check your nationality on the State Department treaty list first. A second citizenship can sometimes open the category.
  • The business must not be marginal. It should produce more than a minimal living for the investor and family, or be expected to do so.
  • The E-2 is not a green card and has no fixed end date, but each renewal depends on the business. Plan the permanent route separately.
  • Most E-2 applications are decided at a U.S. consulate abroad. A change of status inside the United States is possible but has different trade-offs.

Common Questions

There is no fixed minimum. The investment must be substantial compared with the cost of the business, and it must be enough to make the business work. A lower-cost business needs a higher percentage of its cost invested.

Yes. The spouse of an E-2 principal is authorized to work incident to status. Children can go to school but cannot work on that basis.

Not directly. Some investors later qualify through EB-5, EB-1C, EB-2, or family routes. We map the options at the start.
